"Positive SCDN experience"

About: Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust / Community nursing

(as the patient),

After 10 months of feeling unwell, losing weight and my confidence, I now have energy and feel as though I am getting my life back! My blood glucose levels failed to come down even with increasing doses of medication so it was decided by my consultant and GP that I should begin insulin. No one could tell me whether I am Type 1 or 2 diabetic but Michelle (Lead diabetes Specialist Nurse) made it clear that the only important thing was that I feel well. So far I have had 2 appointments at the Cavendish Hospital, Buxton. The first was over 1 hour long and I left feeling confident that my health would improve. Michelle gave me all the information I needed and more importantly, the reassurance that I could cope. The dose she suggested is working well and my bgl is now in the 'normal' range. I hope everyone has such a positive experience as I have had.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience. We realise what a huge impact diabetes can have on your life and glad to hear you are feeling much better and that the diabetes nurse was able to support you and give you the time that you needed.
