"Unhappy with the Scottish Ambulance Service"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service

(as a relative),

The SAS were due to pick up my elderly aunt for a hospital appointment.

She was to be picked up from 8am that morning & as a result her homecare for that morning was cancelled.

They rang the bell, she didn't answer, they left.

My elderly aunt was lying on the floor with a bleed to her brain. She was only found 5 hours later.

Why was no alert made when an elderly person undergoing medical investigations doesn't answer her door at 8am in the morning? Where is the duty of care?

I phoned a few days later to discuss this with a supervisor. My details were taken & I was told I would be contacted. No one has ever been in touch & 2 months have passed.

Communication poor all round.

Dear Worried and Disappointed,

I was quite shocked to read your story and I really need to look at what happened urgently. This is so that I can find out what happened, get back to you and also see if we need to change the way we work to stop something like this happening to someone else.

Please could you contact me on 0141 810 6101 or mailto:pomeara@nhs.net I really do want to be able to get back to you and your aunt. I do hope that she is recovering from all of this.

Pat
