"12 week time guarantee likely to be more than doubled"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / General surgery (Wards 9a, 9b, 9c & 9d) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Rheumatology ( Wards 6a & 6b)

(as the patient),

"Under the Patients Rights (Scotland) Act 2011 you have a guarantee to be admitted for treatment (operation) within 12 weeks. This means that we will offer you an appointment on or before {date}. This is the maximum that should should have to wait, of course we will endeavor to see you sooner. " This is verbatim a quote from the QEU hospital (Southern General) letter issued to me.

I called my consultant's secretary and was informed it was highly unlikely I would be seen on this date. They informed me he has a waiting list of 7 to 8 months for hip arthoscopy. So they said it will be well into the new year. My problem is we have made a lot of arrangements around this time for people to be off with me and look after my two young boys. I need some help and advice please.

Dear longwait16

Thank you for taking the time to post on Patient Opinion. I am sorry to read that hip arthoscopy could be delayed for such a long time.

You have already contacted me personally by email and I have shared your details with the service. I will hopefully be able to come back to you soon with an update.

Best wishes
Lisa

Dear longwait16

Thank you for getting in touch with us. Unfortunately, we are unable to admit patients within their guarantee times in orthopaedics due to the demands on this service. I appreciate the anxiety and distress that this is causing for patients. Please be assured that we are constantly reviewing our service to try to minimise the waiting times for patients where possible.

Kind regards
Susan Groom
General Manager, Surgery South Sector
