"The staff were fantastic so caring ..."

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Birmingham)

(as the patient),

What I liked

The staff were fantastic so caring and professional and they listened to what you wanted to say. fantastic on W5 and the majority of staff on SAU were nice except for one sister who had a matriarc old fashioned attitude although she was not that old and was quite rude with a bad attitude, but on the whole the other sisters were wonderful and nurses and auxilery staff were really nice and professional. In ICU the staff were special they were uplifting and nothing was too much trouble for them the should be commended. This may sound strange but I must also commend the hospital food, it was exceptionally good considering it is made for the masses I was really impressed and the kitchen staff need to be recognised for this.

What could be improved

They are only interested in getting you out of the hospital in SAU I had to go back to A&E the day after I had been discharged from W5 with really bad abdomen pains after an umbilical hernia repair operation. after spending 2 days in the SAU a cat scan revealed that I have a Large Lesion on Left side of abdomen and because this was nothing to do with the operation that I had, they have referred me to out-patients? Why could they not sort it out there and then I was sent home with the same pain that I initially went to A&E with - is this normal procedure - ITS NOT MY JOB - Wow it is such a shame that politically driven budgets and targets reflect on the treatment that you are given. Now I am left with lots of questions such as What is a large lesion? is it dangerous? is it cancerous? so many worries and things going through my head and still they just sent me home as they had done the hernia thing so anything else wasnt their job - Fantastic attitude - Welcome to the NHS

Anything else?

Most of the time I was in and out of nil by mouth but my board was only changed once so if I wasnt knowledgeable as to what I was supposed to be allowed I would have been given things that I would not need and could extend my stay in hospital as if I have eaten but should have been nil by mouth then I would have to wait another day before I could have the operation
