"Mum's admission to hospital"

About: University Hospital Monklands / General Medicine (Wards 2,10,12 and 17)

(as a relative),

Mum took a massive stroke and thanks to the staff at Cumbernauld Centre the paramedics and hospital staff was admitted and treated within 67 minutes. Excellent work by all.

Senior charge nurse Helen Armit in ward 21 and her staff are to be congratulated on their attention to patient care.

If I could make one suggestion it would be if a ward has a patient who is nil by mouth do not park the food trolley outside their door while serving the food.

Dear Xerox0

I’m sorry to hear about your mother’s stroke, this must be a very difficult time for you and your family, I hope she’s recuperating well.

I’m really encouraged by your feedback about the care given in ward 21, NHS Lanarkshire staff work hard to care for and support patients and their families.

Your feedback will be a real motivator for staff and it will be my pleasure to share it with Senior Charge Nurse Helen Armit, her ward team and our community based colleagues.

We will also take on board your comment regarding the food trolley. Senior Charge Nurse Helen Armit and her team are always looking for ways to improve their service and I am sure will be inventive in finding alternatives as to how they can dispense the meals.

If you should wish to discuss further or have any concerns please do not hesitate in contacting me

Thanks for taking the time to get in touch.

Best wishes to you and your family.

Kind regards

Dear Xerox0

Your feedback has been really helpful as we had not previously realised this might be an issue. As you know, patient meals are prepared from a trolley sent from the Hospital kitchen. The trolley is usually “parked” close to the ward kitchen so that domestic staff can access water and other facilities. The patients in the side rooms close by may well be able to smell and see the food; this must be frustrating and difficult when they are not allowed or able to eat.

Staff are now more aware and will consider the circumstances of the patients in these rooms in future and discuss the placement of the meal trolley with the domestic staff.

Hope this has been helpful

Best wishes to you and your family

Thanks

june
