I inadvertently swallowed a mixture of bleach and water recently, as soon as I realized what I had done I drank a load of milk and water after swilling out my mouth with this as well.
I called the A&E department for their advice, they reassured me that I had taken all the right measures and that risk of damage was small, however I should call 111 if other symptoms developed.
I would never call 111 given how this delays getting the right treatment. When my husband was poorly with diverticulitis, haemorrhaging, heart attack and pneumonia on separate occasions I always called 999. You hear so many stories of the delays with 111, all the questions they ask, the doctors they have who are supposedly difficult to understand – I would never use 111.
I have always called 999 and have had a wonderful service from them.
Ideally I would prefer to have my own GP on call, they know your history whereas with 111 you just don’t know who you are going to get.
