"Mistreated by midwife hours after giving birth"

About: Maternity care / Delivery Suite

(as the patient),

So once I had delivered by baby the midwife who has been dealing with me my entire pregnancy in the Mater hospital came around to help me with baby and make sure I got brought up to the ward from the delivery suite etc.

At the start everything seemed okay, then my partner and I noticed that the midwife was getting very stressed and giving the impression that they didn't want to be there as they were on call and had a lot of patients to deal with.

At one point my baby was brought over to the sink and water thrown over her to "wash" her... then when it was time to move to the maternity ward this persona and another staff member persisted to bang myself and my 2 hour old baby into not 1 but 2 sets of doors whilst I lay in the bed helpless.

I was very emotional during to a long labour and being overdue by a week so I was crying at which point the staff member laughed and asked if I was crying just because they had banged into a door. No, they banged my bed into 2 doors whilst I held my new born baby.

I was left with no reassurance or care. Still to this day the anger I feel from that happening boils inside me, it's a disgrace that midwives can treat new mums hours after having a baby this way.
