"Exceptional Nurse"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

Sharon, a nurse in Endoscopy at Wishaw General, is truly exceptional.

After a recent period of admission, I was waiting for an endoscopy. I received a phone call only 20 minutes before my appointment, so I rushed up to the hospital and made it on time. After waiting for an hour I was told it would likely be cancelled. I’ve been feeling very unwell, and this was especially upsetting and frustrating because similar cancellations had happened during my inpatient stay twice previously and I had decided to discharge home to await the endoscopy to avoid taking up a bed unnecessarily. I was in hospital for 6 days before discharge. I was visibly crying and upset and my response was very emotional to the possibility of this being cancelled.

Throughout this situation, Sharon was professional, empathetic, and completely honest. She helped calm me down, took the time to understand what was happening, and worked to resolve the situation. Thanks to her efforts, I was able to be seen later that same day.

Due to my work, I am aware of the pressures on the system, but experiencing them firsthand has been eye-opening. Amid these challenges, Sharon is a ray of light treating every patient with genuine kindness, care, and compassion.

Thank you, Sharon, for showing up every day and making a real difference. Your dedication, empathy, and kindness did not go unnoticed. I am truly grateful for the support you gave me when I needed it most.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart xx
