"Mixed experience"

About: Whiteabbey Hospital / Radiology

(as a service user),

Today I had a mixed experience at white abbey.

I arrived before my appointment time and I could see there was a good few people in the waiting area. A few people said they had appointments earlier than I’d arrived and still hadn’t been seen. The admin staff were lovely and apologetic for any wait.

When I was seen, it was by a lovely radiographer who had a student with them. They could not have been more helpful and were clearly busy, I watched as they were bringing in patient after patient. No stops in between.

And then when they brought me in, you couldn’t tell they were so busy, they were so pleasant. I asked if they had any help and they were nice and said no but it was fine just sorry about the wait for us patients.

I did notice what looked like a senior staff members walking from an office into a managers office, and back a few times. Not once did either of these senior staff members try to assist their staff or lessen the wait for us patients. It left such a bad taste in my mouth, I ranted to my daughter and she said I should write about it here and maybe the radiographer would get recognition but also it would be recognised the lack of support they had today. As I am sure it is not the first and only time there has been a day like that.

I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing, I know in my base, everyone works as a team and I would come out and help my team members regardless. Some people were so grumpy about waiting, I’m sure the poor staff xraying had to deal with so many complaints that day.

Again, I need to emphasise the staff I spoke to were all lovely and pleasant and I have no complaints there. But I feel like I need to bring attention to the things I witnessed in terms of the lack of support the staff in X-ray had when there was other staff members there who seemed like they just didn’t want to leave the computers.
