"Exceptional care for my father during his final days"

About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital / General surgery Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

Our father, who was in his late 80s, was taken into QEQM Margate and was operated on early the next day. From the moment he was admitted, the team on Bishopstone ward treated him with great care and attention. It was clear they were doing everything they could for him.

When it became obvious that he was not improving, Dad was transferred to Sandwich Bay ward for palliative care. The difference they made at that point is something our family will never forget. The palliative team were calm, reassuring and incredibly compassionate. They made Dad comfortable, they brought clarity when we needed it, and they treated every member of our family with kindness. We never felt rushed, and we always felt welcome.

Dad passed away peacefully. As painful as this was, the care he received in those final days made the experience less frightening and more dignified. We are grateful beyond words to the teams on both wards who made such a difference.

Thank you all.
