"An absolute asset to the surgery"

About: The College Practice

(as the patient),

I have been suffering with early pregnancy sickness for a few weeks now and have tried a few anti sickness meds as well as have had to take time off work. This is my first, and an IVF pregnancy so very much wanted whilst full of trepidation and nervousness.

Dr Bassam phoned me and instantly put me at ease, he was congratulatory, friendly and had a truly lovely bedside manner, something I haven't experienced from a medical professional in a long while. He explained all of my medication options clearly and was concerned about my health and wellbeing above all.

I have suffered for 18 years with endometriosis, PCOS and Infertility and I have been ignored, belittled and genuinely insulted by most doctors I have come across in trying to get diagnoses and help/treatment. I had completely lost faith in the NHS to provide patient centred care and ongoing support to be honest, hence going abroad for my IVF treatment.

Dr Bassam showed in just one phone call that there are still professionals in the NHS who will listen to you openly, will not rush you out of their office/off the call and will take the time to ensure you have fully understood all of your options and you actually feel heard and cared for. He is an absolute asset to the College Road Surgery in Maidstone and I hope he is called upon by trainers as an example of an excellent GP with a fantastic bedside manner. Thank you Dr Bassam for treating me with respect, humour and compassion - this is something I haven't experienced from our healthcare system in a very long time
