"Cannula removal"

About: Causeway Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

I had cannula in situ, on right hand and recently, mid November 2025 I asked a staff member to remove it which they didn't, they looked at it and said it is where it needs to be, the cannula was bloody and mucky I had tingling sensation in my hand and wrist, I eventually got it out by another staff member who was nothing but kind caring and considerate, my hand remains swollen bruised and tingling, I feel I was totally ignored the first staff member, I have worked in care for nearly thirty years and I would never leave anything like that, I have a voice to speak about it but maybe someone won't in the future

Hello Bigjbird

My name is Victoria McCrory and I am the Assistant Clinical Services Manager for Causeway ED. I am sorry to hear that you have recently been unwell and had to attend the department for further assessment.

I am sorry to hear read that whilst attending the department you had a poor experience, which does not meet the standards of care and compassion which I would expect to be upheld within the department. Thank you for bringing your concerns to my attention. I will ensure that your feedback is shared with all staff in the department for shared learning.

I hope should you have to attend the department in the future that you have a more positive experience.

Yours Sincerely

Victoria McCrory

Hello Victoria, thanks for your response, I hope that the nurse has been spoken to, my hand remains swollen bruised and tingling and I have no feeling in my little finger, I just don't think this is fair or acceptable.
