Was admitted to A&E after having a fall. Had taken a stomach infection that resulted in dehydration. I passed out while using the toilet and struck my face causing several gashes. Was admitted by ambulance to hospital. Ambulance staff were professional and caring. Experience can only be described as exceptional!
At Causeway Hospital I was admitted promptly and assessed by a doctor within 30 minutes. I was admitted and assessed by medical staff suspected an infection was placed in an isolation ward. The nursing and auxiliary staff were all professional, caring and supportive. I remained in this room being given intravenous medications and being further assessed for two days. As no medical beds were available was discharged in the afternoon to come back next morning to the Acute Ambulatory Unit. Again I was professionally dealt with.
Overall my experience was comforting, reassuring and professional. My only criticism of the hospital experience would be that I was not kept informed of what was happening. Discussions between nursing and medical staff were not communicated to me which made me feel left in the dark about what was happening.
