About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Outpatient Department

(as a parent/guardian),

I attended the Outpatients Department this week with my daughter following her operation on the tip of her finger. As a very anxious mum who was probably worse than my daughter I wanted to say a massive thank you to student nurse Nicole who took off my daughters dressing and cleaned her finger and student nurse Hayley who redressed my daughters finger after gaining advice from nurse Lauren. All of these girls are fantastic and really did make the whole experience a lot less stressful than imagined. From both explaining to myself about what was happening and chatting with my daughter about little things like the demon hunters t-shirt she had on could not thank both Nicole and Hayley enough for the time they took with us and to Lauren who made me (as worried as I was) feel at ease by explaining that her finger was healing as expected.

Thank you to you all and all the best for future studies for the two student nurses

Hello Lovee64

As the Senior Charge Nurse of the Outpatients Department, I would like to thank you so much for taking the time to share your kind feedback following your visit to our Outpatients Department. I’m delighted to hear that your experience with us was a positive one, especially during what must have been a very anxious time for you and your daughter.

It’s wonderful to hear how Nicole and Hayley, our student nurses, supported you both with such care and compassion. Their ability to communicate clearly, offer reassurance, and connect with your daughter on a personal level—right down to noticing her Demon Hunters t-shirt, is exactly the kind of patient-centred care we strive for. I’m also pleased that Lauren was able to provide the clinical guidance and reassurance you needed.

I am incredibly proud of my team, and it’s especially encouraging to see our student nurses demonstrating such professionalism and empathy so early in their careers. I will pass on your lovely message to Nicole, Hayley, and Lauren, it will mean a great deal to them.

Wishing your daughter a smooth and speedy recovery, and thank you again for your thoughtful words. We also join you in wishing Nicole and Hayley all the very best in their future nursing careers.

Warm regards,
Mhairi Stirrat
