"Medication intervention for adhd"

About: Children's Specialist Health Services / Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Children's Specialist Health Services / Neurodevelopmental Service (NDS)

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter after a 6 year wait from referral to diagnosis has now been diagnosed as having both autism and adhd.

My daughter also lost her dad this year to cancer and has massively struggled to control her emotions especially being neurodivergent. My daughter whos under 10 is still waiting for medication trials and I am now a single mum to a neurodivergent child whos also grieving and struggling to cope both at home and at school and being constantly violent toward me and her teachers and had brother.

Giving the circumstances you'd assume some fast track intervention before something really bad happens but nope just left to struggle.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding the service. I am truly sorry to hear about your daughter’s current difficulties and the loss of her father earlier this year. I can only imagine how challenging this has been for your family.

I completely understand how frustrating it can be to experience delays in accessing treatment, especially when support is so greatly needed. At this stage, I’m unclear whether your daughter is currently being seen by CAMHS or by the Neurodevelopmental Service (NDS). If she is under the care of CAMHS, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly on 01698 753803. I would be more than happy to look into her care and explore whether there are any additional supports that may be helpful while you await an appointment for medication consideration. If your daughter is currently open to the NDS, they will be better positioned to advise on waiting times for treatment and can be contacted on 01698 751154 (South) or 01698 687490 (North)

Thank you again for reaching out.

Kind Regards,

Lisa Marie.

Update posted by Wyns (a parent/guardian)

She has been seen and discharged by camhs, the wait to trial medication is horrific especially having a diagnosis. In my opinion, one wouldn't go to the doctors be diagnosed with something and sent packing without any medication to treat them, and I feel this situation should be the same.
