"The way the team interacted with me made it a far more pleasant experience"

About: Edinburgh Dental Institute / Oral Surgery & Medicine

(as a service user),

I attended the Department of Oral Surgery for a wisdom tooth extraction with Ms Greig, Sue, and student Megan. Sue collected me from the waiting area and I let her know I was dreading the procedure, due to difficulty with this tooth and my own dentist not being able to extract it previously, which was quite an unpleasant experience.

I was introduced to everyone in the procedure room, reassured about what would happen, and given updates along the way. All of the checks before my procedure were done in a really clear way which made me feel reassured. I was given the opportunity to ask any questions, told what I needed to do throughout the procedure, and it was well communicated what was happening and how things were progressing. Everyone was very proactive at checking if I was okay and reassuring/encouraging me throughout.

While still not the most pleasant procedure, it was nowhere near as bad as I'd built it up to be in my head, and the way the team interacted with me made it a far more pleasant experience. It makes such a difference going into something feeling so apprehensive, and coming away with such a sense of relief at the treatment given, with a particular emphasis on the care and compassion the team showed me. I can't express my gratitude enough for all 3 members!

Dear Lauren07

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. I will ensure that Ms Greig and her team all see a copy of your comments and are recognised for their hard work. The team work so hard towards making our patients comfortable in the dental surgery environment and I am so glad that they managed to put your mind at ease.

I hope you have recovered well from your wisdom tooth extraction.

Once again thank you.
