I attended an appointment at the Haematology clinic, Bridgewater Suite of Belfast City hospital. I had received disappointing news at my appointment and was very upset, I was battling to hold in my emotions while waiting for my prescription at the waiting area. The nurse who handed me my medications noticed that I was crying and invited me into a bay for some privacy. She asked if I was ok, offered me a glass of water and a listening ear. I was very touched by this gesture as I appreciate that hospital staff are very busy and did not expect her to stop for me. I appreciated that even though she could not change my medical condition, she showed me compassion by stopping to have a chat with me at a very v*ulnerable time. I wish I could remember her name to acknowledge her kindness but sadly I cannot recall. Overall, the staff at the haematology clinic are the most compassionate team I have encountered from the receptionist to the phlebotomists, nursing assistants, nurses and doctors. I appreciate their bedside manner in that they always seem willing to listen even when they do not have the answer.
I also appreciate the welcoming atmosphere in the waiting area especially the tea and coffee, library and 'The Hub' for young people. Sometimes, it's the little things when you are unwell.
"Attentive and compassionate nurse"
