"Road to recovery"

About: Addiction services / The Asha Centre

(as a service user),

I came to Asha because I struggled with addiction for many years. I realized I needed help to stop so I had been referred to Asha as I heard great reports about the unit.

The first day I came in, I remember thinking to myself how am I going to get through 4 weeks. But that changed instantly as soon as I met the staff who welcomed me so warmly and I felt calm straight away. The place was so clean and bright and people were all so nice. Can't believe the standard of the food, 3 course meals 3 times a day. Valerie and Eimear the domestics  were great.

I enjoyed all the groups. Very educational. Staff made everything enjoyable and easy to understand. It taught me ways which I can control my urges and cravings better. It helped me realise that I was using drugs to suppress a loss of a parent and the loneliness; and what I was doing to my family. Had I not got to Asha, I don't know how much longer I would have lived. I honestly feel they've saved my life.

I lost my relationship with my daughter and I'm now on the road to repairing that relationship and look forward to spending more time with her and my family.

I'm really going to miss the place and all the staff. I felt so safe here and now I see it as my second home. I met some fantastic people, recovering addicts included. I will be coming up to the ex-patient meetings to stay linked in.

The only one thing I could say is this place needs a pool table. Other than that 5 stars.

Thank you all the staff. Too many to name.
