"Got an abortion"

About: Sexual and Reproductive Health / Abortion Service

(as the patient),

First time I've ever (and hopefully will ever) fell pregnant. I was beside myself in disbelief, worrying what would happen to me if abortion wasn't legal in this country - that I'd have to take time off work to travel to the mainland from NI; how long it would take; how painful it might be.

I finally gathered the courage to call my GP about it who then put me in touch with the people at my local clinic, and as soon as I heard the woman on the phone, I knew I'd be okay.

I hope everyone that works there has the best life they can possibly have because they helped me with mine as much. The process was surprisingly simple and painless, and any information was given to me clear-cut with kindness and consideration, without judgement.

They even followed up immediately by recommending a contraceptive and making an appointment for after I'd recovered, the process of which was also quick and near painless, with the emotional support needed.

Anyone out there protesting against abortion, saying "it's not healthcare" (I've seen as much) sickens me deeply. I couldn't ever imagine being so ignorant towards other people that I'd make someone suffer through a pregnancy they didn't want or even couldn't have, whether it's a choice that person has made or not, they should be able to receive they care they need for it and I don't think that's hard to understand nor should be an argument.
