"We are extremely grateful to them all"

About: Older People Community Services / Community Stroke Team

(as a relative),

My mum had a significant stroke in June 2025. She was discharged from hospital in August. We were then introduced to mummy’s care team - the Physio Roseann, OT Alison, Dietitian Amy and Speech & Language Therapist Seana. All of these therapists have been integral in helping my mum and we as her family are extremely grateful to them all.

When my mum got out of hospital, she felt very vulnerable and frightened as she had lost her independence. However, Roseann and Alison have worked extensively with her and have always managed to get the best from her. More importantly though, mummy trusted these fantastic women and really looked forward to their visits. They were really good at reassuring mummy of how far she had come, while ensuring that she still had hope, but at the same time they were honest with her and explained what her capabilities were.

Roseann and Alison have helped mummy physically to improve as far as she can following her stroke, but the benefits and care to her mental health has been invaluable and for that we are extremely thankful.

As a family we have formed a rapport with them and while we know that they have taken mummy as far as they can in her recovery, we will also miss their visits.

Dear listengr97,

Thank you for sharing such thoughtful feedback. It’s heartening to hear how much Alison’s occupational therapy input meant to your mum and your family during her recovery. Building trust and supporting both physical and emotional wellbeing are central to our role, and we’re so glad this was your experience.

The collaborative care of the wider team—Roseann, Amy, and Seana—clearly made a lasting impact. Your kind words will be shared with them all.

Wishing your mum continued progress and strength.

Warm regards,
Julie Bray
