"Community flu vaccinations for school aged children"

About: Children and young people / School Age Immunisation Team (SAINT)

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter was due to have the flu nasal spray and she is being referred for autism. We attended the community clinic in Taunton as she had refused to have it done at school and she became slightly overwhelmed clinging to me and telling me she didn't want to have it done.

Nurse Charlotte was excellent, she got out the visual board and showed my daughter the different steps that it involved having it done. She showed her the nasal spray and then said that she would just put it on her cheek to let her feel what it felt like. She then was able to get it up one nostril quickly and say there you go one done and my daughter didn't even realise that it had happened so was not upset or distressed. She was then able to tolerate the second one in the other nostril. She was then given the opportunity to choose a sticker which is always a plus and it was over and done with.

Absolutely fabulous experience and completely painless. Thank you.

The team will be very happy to know they were able to help your daughter and that she was not upset or distressed by the immunisation. I will pass your kind words on to the team.

Thank you again for your feedback.
