"My husband's palliative care"

About: Countywide Community Care Service Delivery Unit / Palliative Care Team Countywide Community Care Service Delivery Unit / Worcestershire Community Equipment Service

(as a relative),

When he was due to leave hospital after being told there was nothing more they could do,  basically he was coming home to spend his final days at home. The care and support we received from the district nurses and care support was excellent. The use of the 24 hour telephone number was invaluable and gave great peace of mind.  The only negative throughout the whole end of life process has been the wait we are experiencing for the collection of the bed and equipment.

Thank you for telling us your story and I am pleased to hear the care your husband received was so good.

I fully understand your frustrations about our equipment service delay in collecting your husbands bed and equipment. I imagine it can be distressing having equipment still in the home when someone has passed away.

As a service, we prioritise deliveries of equipment to support hospital discharge and end of life care, but this can mean there is a delay in collections.

We are currently looking at how we can flag on our patient record system, if there is a need to collect equipment in a more timely manner, and hope this will help our admin to prioritise these collections in the future.
