I had been suffering with an extremely painful foot for some time now. Foot had become very swollen and unable to put weight on it. What was worse was the excruciating pain. The pain level seemed to get worse by the day. After two awful visits to A&E before, I was reluctant to attend again. The level of pain drove me to give in and go along.
At triage, I was told that there was nothing they could do for me, and that I would be better off contacting my GP, even though it was clear that my foot was very swollen.
I waited to see a dr but got nowhere with that either. The doctor just stood and nodded to my explanation. My main concern at the build up of pain was a possible plantar vein thrombosis. The doctor agreed and left the cubicle only returning to suggest that I up my pain killers by doubling all the pain relief I had been taking. I had made it clear that I was not asking them for pain killers and I don't want to be taking them. I have pain killers at home from my GP.
So that was that. I was to essentially go away despite being told by my GP that when you cant stand the pain you should go to A&E while waiting on appointment!
They didn't help me at all, apart from making it clear I was not getting pain killers that I did not want anyway, there was no benefit to attending casualty.
I left asking why I bothered and still very worried.
