"Painless Treatment"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Public Dental Service / Drumchapel Health Centre

(as a service user),

I have bad past experiences with going to dentist because it has always been painful regardless of the area being numbed. I become anxious every time I have to get checked to the dentist. 2 Days ago, I woke up with excruciating pain on my left cheek. I could feel the pain spread from the upper right side of my cheek towards my jaw.

I contacted NHS on 111 and they manage to book an emergency dental appointment for me. It turns out that one of my tooth is dead and they had to clean the root canal. Paula and Emma helped me with the procedure.

They were very welcoming and kind throughout the procedure, I don't feel any pain at all!

They made sure that I am comfortable and told me to always sign to them whenever I feel like it starts feeling overwhelming for me or if I am not okay throughout the procedure.

They definitely helped me tremendously with my anxiety of having to go to the dentist in the future! :D

Dear jc256,

Thank you for taking the time to get in contact to let us know about your experience when attending the Public Dental Service for emergency unscheduled care.

Dental pain is hard to cope with and I hope you are now well on your way to a full recovery.

I will pass on your kind comments to Emma and Paula who provided your care, they will be delighted to have their skills recognised.

Best Wishes

Karen

Dear jc256

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion. I was sorry to learn you had cause to contact 111 due to your dental pain, I understand this would have taken a lot of courage based on your previous experiences when visiting the dentist. I hope you are now feeling much better after treatment.

I am replying on behalf of NHS 24 and I was delighted to hear about your positive care journey and that NHS 24 was able to arrange your onward dental care. If you wish to share some more information with me, including your Care Opinion user name, then I could identify the staff who managed your call to NHS 24 and share your Care Opinion story with them. We always like to ensure that staff see positive feedback to reinforce for them how valued their care is when people call our services.

You can contact me by email at Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

Thank you again for sharing your experience.
