"Struggling with depression. Reach out get the help."

About: Staffordshire Treatment and Recovery Service - STARS / Individual Placement & Support (IPS) Staffordshire Treatment and Recovery Service - STARS / North Team

(as a service user),

Father of two with a partner and a job.

I was struggling majorly with depression I come to a point where I had no choice but to get help it was my only option.

I had hit a brick wall I was using alcohol and cocaine to temporarily relieve the dark depressing states I was getting into. Which was just adding to the depression.

I went to the doctors and got in touch with STARs where they put me on the right track.

I met Chris who helped me understand the depression and the reason I was using the alcohol. This helped me cut down all together I wouldn’t have done it without him. He was friendly and understanding, there was no judgement from him. I knew I could contact him at any time.

I finally understood my job was playing a big part of my depression and this is when Chris introduced me to Matt  (employment advisor). Just like Chris, Matt was friendly and easy to get on with and helped me no end.  I was advised to look for another job as I was already signed off with depression.

Matt helped me with my CV and gave me loads of interview tips. He even gave me laptop to make my job search easier. I managed to get an interview and started my new job and have never looked back.

I also completed CBT therapy with Sarah who was again patient, understanding and professional she also taught me methods to deal with my mental health.

I feel like a different man I am happy with my job and I am enjoying life a lot more. My family are so much happier and I am excited for what the future holds for us.

I continue to speak to Chris and Matt on my recovering journey and would like to thank them for everything they have done. They really have helped me change my life around.

It’s hard but reach out and get the help, If I can do it you can. It gets easier I promise. 🙏

Hi AL 34,

My name is Hannah Brock and I am the Hub Manager for Newcastle-under-Lyme and Staffordshire Moorlands STaRS Inclusion.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story, it has been lovely to read.

You should be so proud of the journey that you have taken on your recovery and the steps that you have taken to not only engage with STaRS Inclusion and IPS but to make such amazing and impactful changes in your life. These sustainable changes could not have been possible with your dedication and input and focus on yourself.

I will make sure that Chris and Matt receive this feedback directly along with the rest of the team.

You should be commended on the steps that you have taken and myself, Chris, Matt and everyone here at STaRS wishes you all the best on your future recovery journey.

Thanks,

Hannah
