I was admitted at 11 pm at night with a severe infection in my hip. I had had a hip replacement a few years earlier and it had become badly infected, the pain was like something I'd ever experienced before. I was operated on the very next day to have it all cleaned out and immediately put on IV antibiotics.
The surgeon who had done my original surgery came to see me which I thought was really nice and eventually he and his team took over my care.
I was in for 3 weeks and I have to say if it wasn't for the lovely, friendly nurses who couldn't have done enough for me, even making me toast long after breakfast had passed because I couldn't have any at the time for being sick, I would have been tearing my hair out. They were always cheery, passing the time of day with me when they had a spare minute as I was in a room on my own because of infection. All in all I was well impressed with my care from both the nurses on the ward and the surgical team looking after me.
Ward 109 were professional, kind, supportive and even there with a cuddle when I got a bit overwhelmed. They made my long stay much more bearable.
"Professional, kind and supportive"
