"A&E Department"

About: Royal Hampshire County Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I was sent by my GP to receive help with a rather complex UTI - incubating 4 bacterial strains. And no, it wasn't a mixed growth/spoiled sample, I had 4 bacterial strains.

Registration did not take long, but to be triaged took over 90 minutes. After nearly 4hrs taken to ambulatory ED past the waiting/reception area. Other than taking some bloods and doing my vitals twice there was absolutely no assistance from any of the clinicians. Not a single ED doctor saw me or spoke to me.

I started asking at the 7hr mark when would Medicine show up to help me. Medicine finally showed up, after nearly 9hrs and their response was to wait & see if microbiology/urology wanted to provide any input - and it would probably been at least another day before Urology could see me.

I came to the hospital to receive IV antibiotics as none of the tablet antibiotics could handle the bacterial strains - as per the lab report. I was discharged after 9hrs.

The next day I went to another hospital  - in and out in 3hrs, received medication (IV gentamicin) an additional treatment plan and Urology guided the whole process for me.

Winchester ED was also quite tired, filthy and the staff members were not very keen to help.
