My sister-in-law is in her 80s and was told to go to A&E by the GP as she had an irregular heartbeat.
She was triaged, put on a drip and put back in the waiting room, where she remained for 48 hours. She has problems with swollen legs and is told to elevate them. 2 days sat in a chair didn't improve them.
The waiting room was noisy, brightly lit and not conducive to relaxation.
In our experience, this department is not fit for purpose. If you contact your GP all they want to do is send you to A &E. There is no continuity of care as you never see the same person twice.
