"seemed to have no concept of my previous appointment"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital / Fracture Clinic

(as a service user),

I was in for a consultation about my upcoming surgery following on from an appointment 2 weeks ago with an excellent doctor who had taken me through all my options and explained succinctly the benefits and drawbacks of each one.

Imagine then my shock at being greeted this time, after a 75 minute delay from my appointment time, by a doctor who seemed to have no concept of my previous appointment and whose main advice was not to put my limb in the positions that cause problems....

It was only after some severe and blunt prompting by myself that the doctor grasped the fact that I had previously agreed to surgery and that this appointment had been set up to discuss the surgery in detail, including timelines.

They were unable to give me any closer timeline than 'a few months' and when discussing what the surgery involves were unable to give me more detail than its a keyhole surgery where we put a camera in, see what it shows us and fix it, which is hardly the most informative way to ensure a patient understands the consequences of the surgery. Despite my blunt and direct questioning on the matter they refused to discuss anything about recovery steps or how long it they might take....

It's the worst experience I've had with the NHS in quite some time. I feel I could have had a much better appointment with far more information and feel far more comfortable to proceed with the surgery.

Good morning,

Thank you for your sharing your post about your recent experience with the Fracture Clinic at Stepping Hill. I was sorry to read about how your appointment went for you.

If you feel it would be helpful to discuss further, please can contact us on Patient.Experience@stockport.nhs.uk with your details (name, date of birth, contact number) and we can ask the team to look into this for you with a response.

In the meantime, I have highlighted your concerns with the Divisional Lead who has assured me that the staff will be made aware of your feedback for discussion in their team meeting.

Kind regards,
