I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks to the Early Pregnancy Assessment Service at University Hospital Wishaw after what has been one of the most difficult times of my life. Losing a very much loved and wanted baby due to a missed miscarriage is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone, but the kindness, compassion, and professionalism shown to me and my husband made an unbearable situation just that little bit more bearable.
I would especially like to thank midwives Tracey and Heather, and Dr Ragi, who were all incredible throughout my care.
Tracey was there for me both when my pregnancy loss was confirmed and again the following day when I returned for my procedure. She made sure I felt safe and able to ask any questions, constantly reassuring me that none of this was my fault. I cannot stress enough how comforting her presence was; her compassion was genuine, and her heart truly shone through every interaction. During my procedure, when I was nervous and scared, Tracey held my hand, talked me through every step, and helped keep me calm with her gentle, reassuring voice. There is no other way to describe her than to say she was made for this role. I honestly wish there was more I could do to thank her.
Heather, although not my midwife, showed me such kindness when I needed it most. She brought my medications to me the day before my procedure and, noticing how upset I was, she stopped, spoke with me, and offered me a hug. In that moment, that simple, human gesture meant the world to me. It was a small act of compassion that made me feel seen and cared for in the midst of heartbreak.
I also want to thank Dr Ragi, who carried out my MVA procedure with professionalism and kindness. Knowing I was in capable and understanding hands made such a difference, and I’m so very grateful.
My husband would also like to express his gratitude to Tracey for being by my side in the procedure room when he couldn’t be there himself. He had been worried about me going through it alone, but after meeting Tracey over those two days, he knew I couldn’t have been in safer, more compassionate hands.
Every member of staff we encountered at the Early Pregnancy Unit is an absolute credit to the service. What you provide is more than just medical care—it’s emotional support at a time when people feel most vulnerable. You are, without question, a beacon of light during some of life’s darkest moments. This service is truly invaluable, and I will never forget the care I received.
From the bottom of our hearts—thank you.
