"Outstanding care and compassion from admission to discharge"

About: Western General Hospital / Medical Assessment Unit Western General Hospital / Medicine of the elderly

(as a relative),

My mum recently spent 11-12 weeks in the Western General following an infection/collapse.  She was initially cared for in MAU (also a fabulous, very busy, hardworking team) and after a terrifying late night phone call when we thought we might lose her, she was stable enough to be moved into the care of the MOE team.

I cannot praise the team in ward 50 highly enough, they are simply awesome, providing high quality care with compassion, dignity and respect at all times.  Mum has advanced alzheimer's disease and my dad, as her main carer, had been struggling to cope at home.  Our concerns and worries were listened to and understood, which was a huge relief to us.

Nothing was ever too much trouble and she was incredibly well cared for by every single member of the ward team. With input and support from the social work team, we all worked together to ensure mum would be cared for in the correct environment for her.  A true example of person centred care.

She is now settling into her new care home, dad is looking healthier and happier and can now focus on being her husband rather than her carer and they can spend quality time together.

So thank you again to everyone in ward 50 (there are too many names to mention), dad and I are eternally grateful for everything you have done.

The team is a credit to the NHS and more specifically to the Western General family.
