"My First Ever Screening"

About: Sidwell Street Clinic / Exeter Sexual Health

(as a service user),

As this was my first visit, it mainly focused on my sexual history, both past and current. I was also advised to give swabs, throat and rectal and produce a urine sample. This would all then be screened for any potential STIs.

I was given a Hep A vaccination and Prep tablets to be taken daily even if sex was not imminent.

I was given advice and helpful information concerning my sexual activity and how to remain safe from STIs and any other sexual related diseases.

I was weighed, height taken and blood pressure readings. The blood pressure readings highlighted an elevation and as such I was advised to make an appointment with my surgery which I have now done and am in the process of beginning a seven day monitoring schedule.

This turned out to be a surprisingly benefit to my sexual screening appointment!

During the whole process I was treated with total respect and discretion.

I found it very easy to converse with both Hannah and Jane during my appointment and at no time did I feel uneasy. Both their knowledge and clear concise explanations were very easy to follow and understand.

I didn't know what to expect as it was my first visit, but it well exceeded anything I could have imagined and I felt more in control of my sexual life and needs and added to that, much safer in going forward.

Thank you Hannah and Jane.

I answer phone calls from patients, book their appointments, find answers to their questions through liaising with clinicians, welcome patients and help where necessary. Plus admin duties.
