"Joint School - hip replacement preparation class"

About: Cannock Chase Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a relative),

The Joint School was presented by Kirsty and Sian. I came with a family member who is having a hip operation in a few weeks. It was useful to have all the information presented as a talk with other people going through the same operation in the next few weeks. It was great that family are included at this stage to know what is going to happen and what support is needed post operation. It was so clear on every point over the next month from what to bring, clothing, getting practical advice from where to put your pans in the kitchen to making sure all home repairs are done in time, demonstration of exercises and being able to take home and practice using crutches before the operation. It was good to meet the nurses and physio before arrival in hospital and to know what to do before it all happens. I went not knowing what the meeting would involve to coming out knowing an awful lot more about the entire process. So supportive and educational too.
