"Very unprofessional approach"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Elective Orthopaedics (Ward 7)

(as the patient),

I attended a doctor at hairmyres orthopedic department recently, after being admitted twice to hospital in February with severe pain and attending physiotherapy. I was hopeful that I would finally get this addressed. Although this Dr was uninterested in any my concerns and they sat with a screen in front of them stating I suffered anxiety and stress(I found this totally inappropriate).

Firstly they stated I needed to be sent to pain management, I stated I had been on pain relief and was still in severe agony given the fact that I have tumours in my spine I was hoping this would be investigated further to see if it could ease my pain. This doctor gave me no examination and then went and brought a nurse in and I felt rushed out the door with the doctor then stating they would send me to a neurosurgeon for a second opinion. I didn’t even get the chance to discuss the fact that I’ve been losing the feeling in my lower limbs.

I found this approach very unprofessional and it now means that I am left unable to sleep/ sit move comfortably until I get seen by another dr. I also mentioned my left hip bone being extremely sore and the fact that my armpits were going black to which they say I would need to go back to my own gp for after months of awaiting this appointment I feel really let down by the nhs.

Dear Motherwell17

I am sorry to read your feedback and how you feel let down by the NHS. You have described ongoing pain and symptoms and feel that you have been rushed during your orthopaedic appointment.

As Jenni says, we would like to look into this further for you and in order to do this we hope to hear from you.

Kind regards

Lise

Thankyou lise that means a lot to me

As stated, the advisor did look into this complaint for me but unfortunately I’m no further forward, the advisor stated she spoke to the orthopaedic dr and he stated he had made a referral, no apology just that if I wanted to know how long I’d wait my appointment I’d to phone the Glasgow hospital (to which I can never get through) so realistically, although the advisor was very apologetic and sympathetic, it hasn’t changed my situation and I’m still left suffering with no help except pain killers which aren’t alleviating the pain. Very unfortunate experience.
