"The staff were absolutely fantastic"

About: Paediatrics / Oak Ward

(as a parent/guardian),

My son broke his arm and unfortunately didn’t recover over the coming weeks, he developed an infection in the area and was taken in for investigative care.

Whilst we were discounted that this was not found earlier by the medical team, the staff on Acorn ward were absolutely fantastic. In particular, Chloe (student nurse) who just couldn’t have offered a better service. She was amazing. And she’s going to be an incredible asset to Musgrove in the future.

Dear Eridanusxk55

Many thanks for your time in sharing your story about your positive experience about your stay with us. I do hope your son is now much better from his infection or on the road to being fully better especially after what sounds to have been a turbulent recovery period for your son following his broken arm.

I am extremely pleased you and your son received such fantastic care from all our staff colleagues on Acorn ward and I am delighted Nurse Chloe was able to provide all the support you needed. Many thanks for your kind acknowledgment of Nurse Chloe's care and we very much agree - we are very lucky to have her working with us in the Children's unit. Your feedback will be directly shared with Chloe and I am sure she will be very happy to hear about your feedback.

I am very sorry you felt discounted about the delay in finding the infection, I appreciate it would have been a very worrisome time for you and your son. We alway aim to actively listen to the concerns voiced by our children, young people and families and I am sorry you did not experience this. If you wish to talk more about this we do welcome a conversation to help us explore and understand more about your experience so we can learn how to to improve our service. Should you wish to talk to us further please email our Children's Unit Matrons Suzy Mason and Caroline Jackson on Suzy.Mason@somersetft.nhs.uk or Caroline.Jackson@SomersetFT.nhs.uk.

I will share your feedback with Nurse Chloe, everyone on Acorn ward who looked after you and your son and I will also share with the wider Children's unit.

Many thanks again for your feedback. I wish your son a smooth, speedy and full recovery!

Kindest regards

Dr Holly
