During my pregnancy I was looked after in the Mater Hospital by Aimee, who was absolutely amazing, but chose to give birth in the Royal Maternity.
I had a UTI when I was 36 weeks pregnant and was admitted to E ward in the Royal Maternity for 5 days. During my time there the midwives and students were absolutely brilliant with me. The care and understanding from them all was out of this world.
I got a sweep on the Saturday morning and right away I started getting pains. My waters broke at 39 + 5 weeks at 2:30am on Sunday morning, I had group B strep so went straight to hospital for antibiotic drip. I was taken straight away and again the care and support from the midwives was unreal. They were all so kind. I was 6cms so i was taken straight to the delivery suite. My labour progressed for around 2 hours and then baby’s heart rate was dropping too low with each contraction, so they started to prepare for a section. But when we got to theatre everything settled so I was brought back to delivery suite. The midwives were all amazing at keeping me calm, and checking on my partner, who had just been left in the room on his own, a midwife was keeping him updated and keeping him calm too!
I had a vacuum delivery, and a slight tear, but at 8:30am our beautiful baby girl was born safe and well.
I cannot thank the staff at Royal Maternity Belfast enough. The help and support every single midwife and doctor showed us was second to none.
Thank you
