"A mostly positive experience"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

It has taken from October/November 2022 to get to my procedure due to covid so that is not the fault of the hospital.  I have nothing but praise for the Cataract Unit at QMH Dunfermline.  It is friendly, caring and efficient.

Everything went well but I was not told and neither is it in the patient pack about the fogginess I would have in the treated eye.  I was really worried and it was only talking to friends who told me it would go away after some days.  This has happened thank goodness and I am relieved that my sight is begging to become much clearer and sharp. Just a wee note would have dispelled by concerns.

Otherwise a great experience and things are going well.

Dear Rab90

My name is Siobhan McIlroy and I am the Head of Patient Experience. NHS Fife welcomes all feedback, so thank you for taking the time to post on Care Opinion. I am sorry for the delay in you receiving a response.

It is lovely to hear that you have nothing but praise for the team in the Cataract Unit at QMH and that you found them caring and efficient. They will be delighted with that feedback.

Thank you for being so understanding regarding Covid and how this impacted on the timing of your appointment. I will ensure your comment about patient information is fed back to the team. I am sure if you knew to expect fogginess you would have been at ease with it.

Thank you for sharing your story and this is what feedback is all about learning from patients. Hope you continue to recover. Take care and best wishes.

Dear Rab90,

Many thanks for taking the time to share your recent experience and the praise you have for the team in the Cataract Unit.

I am sorry to hear your concerns regarding the foggy vision this can happen after surgery and usually does settle within the first few days after surgery. We have information on the back of the patient information leaflet that if you feel your vision is worse to contact us so that we can assess this. I understand that it might be easier to have within the patient information that your vision may be foggy following the surgery and I am happy to discuss this with the Consultants to see how we can make this change.

Please get in contact with us if you have any questions we are happy to help.
