"Made me feel respected and cared for"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Royal Alexandra Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone at the RAH Paisley for their care after I was bitten by a dog.

I was quite shaken by the event and had called NHS 24 for advice on what to do next. A video consultation was arranged and I was sent up to the RAH Minor Injuries Unit for further consultation, as the dog's teeth had penetrated the skin.

Once I arrived the receptionist was friendly and helpful, I was seen quickly by a triage nurse and then treated by the minor injuries staff. The nurse who treated me was patient and understanding of me even while I was in shock and struggled to answer some of the questions. She made me feel respected and cared for, which means a lot after a traumatic incident.

Unfortunately I can’t remember any names of staff members. The whole process of arriving at the RAH and being treated and discharged took around an hour. I was really worried about having to attend due to stories about how overstretched the services are, but despite the pressure they’re under the staff were positive and I didn’t feel rushed or judged.

Thank you so much for making my traumatic Friday afternoon a little easier and putting me at ease.

Dear hotelyk64

I'm sorry to learn you were bitten by a dog. This sounds like a traumatic experience and I hope you are doing well.

It's kind of you to share your experience on Care Opinion. The staff within the RAH sound fantastic and clearly put you at ease and made you feel cared for, which is hugely important. This is great feedback which I'm sure the staff within the RAH will be delighted to see.

I note you made an initial call to NHS 24. Should you wish to share any more detail in relation to calling 111, it would be great to hear further from you. You can call me on 07814 299944 or email Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

Thanks again and hope your confidence in being around dogs has not been dented.

Take care

Shona

Dear hotelyk64

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion of your "traumatic Friday afternoon".

Hearing of the friendly and reassuring staff throughout your journey is great. I will certainly share your kind words with our whole team. I'm pretty sure they'll know who they are when I display this in the staff area.

I'm proud to respond on their behalf and that you're recovering well.

Many thanks again

Gerry
