What I liked
The professional way the nursing staff carried out their tests.
The thorough examination by the doctor.
What could be improved
Despite the GP telephoning the hospital in our presence when we arrived there was no record of this in the Medical Emergency Centre and we were transferred to A&E, examined and then transferred back to MEC.
Total lack of ownership of the patients end to end experience.
Nurses do tests and then its up to the doctor to arrive.
We spent 2 hours from arriving to be tested/ X rayed and then 3.5 hours to be seen by a doctor with no one advising on the reason for the long delays - there was one emergency 2.5 hours into our wait otherwise a quiet night.
I was left angry and frustrated at the state of healthcare in Shrewsbury in 2007. If there is a manager responsible for the running of the MEC I suggest they resign in shame at a systemic failure of patient care.
