"Well done NSECH"

About: North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / NHS 111 Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

(as a service user),

I underwent surgery in early November to remove the right lobe of my thyroid  because of thyroid cancer at the RVI, following my surgery I was getting more and more unwell.

When I started to cough up blood I knew I needed to be back at hospital.

I called 111 who had an ambulance at my front door in under 10 minutes, when I arrived at cramlington hospital there was a long cue of people waiting to be put into rooms. I was moved to resus as my stats were bad and I was having problems breathing within less than an hour I was taken in for emergency surgery for catastrophic infection. Mr aspinall and the whole emergency team saved my life.

Once the surgery was completed I was moved to critical care, the team couldn't do enough to help me. One of the nurses Liz helped me shower she also washed and dried my hair to make me feel more human again.

I owe a huge debt of thanks to everyone at NSECH who helped me, they were kind and caring, brave and quick thinking.
