"The Home Treatment Team"

About: Ealing

(as a service user),

Because I have had bipolar for many years now I know what my relapse signatures are.   Recently, I knew my mood was beginning to escalate so I knew the best thing I could do was access the home treatment team and be under their care while this episode saw itself out.   Several times I have had to ring the home treatment office to find out some information or to ask a question and on each occasion I have found their response, albeit polite, blunt and non-explanatory.   I was getting so upset after each interaction that my sister advised my to stop ringing as it was only upsetting me and not helpful to my fragile state of mind.   I am also shocked to discover that they only have access to one psychiatrist at the moment.   I am shocked that there is no prescribing pharmacist working over the weekends. How a mental health trust operates without full cover and access to all necessary professionals over weekends is beyond belief!

Dear Pyxispq75,

Firstly, I would like to apologise for the service you have received from Ealing Crisis Assessment and Treatment Team (CATT) and I agree, that appropriate telephone manner is vital to ensuring people feel heard and well supported.

I would also like to apologise that you were informed we only had access to one psychiatrist and that we also do not have access to a pharmacist over a weekend. We have a team of medics that work across Ealing CATT and there is access to an on-call pharmacist over the weekend to ensure we are able to offer a safe and responsive service.

I have informed the team of your concerns and I plan to discuss this further, with the team, at our next team meeting. Without knowing who the clinicians were, I am unable to discuss the situation individually with them however, we absolutely want to learn from instances where we could have been better. I would invite you to contact our PALS or call myself on 0208 483 2059 to provide more information for me to look into this further.

Thank you for taking time to provide feedback and once again, I do apologise that you were provided with incorrect information and that your experience with the team has not been a positive one.

Thank You,

Sarah Rexon
