Recent A/E admission followed by stay on Acute Medical Unit AMU. A/E wait long given chest pain and GP letter / ECG printout. Staff confirmed should have been seen faster and given chest details given limited priority . On AMU medicine was requested (none with me) and never supplied, including blood pressure medication and nerve pain meds. Insulin (diabetic) only given after a number of demands, both for long acting for overnight and post food doses. When tests eventually requested performed in a reasonable time frame X-ray/CT scan. Echocardiogram staff lovely and quick. AMU do no have sufficient 24 hour / ECG trace monitors and was told it could take days in hospital to have one become available so would have to stay. Food during stay takes fine but everything stone cold including beans on burnt toast. Tea fine. Medical staff require more finesse when dealing with patients, need to actually listen and for the elderly talk more clearly/loudly. They also need to be willing to compromise and show empathy.
"A/E Slow / AMU Poor understaffed and lack some..."
