My Mum was 86 years old with COPD and Asthma. Mum had lead a quite life and latterly as a widow of almost 4 years. Mum had struggled for a few months more so that was normal and had, in her mind, decided that she wanted to leave us.
When this decision was made she stopped doing the things she had loved, eating cake things like Mr Kipling's fancies which had been a part of daily life, and the chocolate she had always craved throughout her life, the ceasing of these simple pleasures confirmed how Mum was feeling and that she had decided her time was nigh.
After a little fall - nothing serious - Mum took to her bed, the opportunity to let life slip away had presented itself. From the moment I called Mums GP the NHS kicked in and care became available.
The dedication, tenacity and gentleness of the nursing staff was staggering, any time day or night they attended. They were kind and considerate not only of Mum but for my well-being and those around me who were in constant attendance. They and the overall service is to be commended for their outstanding work.
"The gentleness of the nursing staff was staggering"
