"The paramedics were excellent and put me straight at ease"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance The Great Western Hospital / General surgery The Great Western Hospital / Pain Management

(as the patient),

As I'd had a stroke previously and had no feeling in my left side of my body, now I'd broke my ankle. I had been on the floor for 5 hours and the pain was severe. The paramedics Ian and Andrew  were excellent and put me straight at ease. Took their time, explained every step of the way what was happening or going to happen. They got me downstairs with the aid of morphine. This helped because the pain was getting worse.

Once in the ambulance they made sure that I was secure and happy what was going on. All the way through they kept me informed and reassured me what was happening.

These men are a credit to the service. They made me feel totally safe whilst in their care

It is a shame that it went down hill from there nursing staff wise. I felt that once the operation had taken place they just wanted you OUT.

I was discharged made sure that I had an outpatient apt. As long as my bed was downstairs and had a commode I was good to go.

Dear Lollewe,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story and I hope you are recovering well.

It is always rewarding to hear stories of how our staff are delivering care and support to patients and those around them when they need it most.

We would be happy to share your story with the ambulance staff involved in your care, however, to do so we will need some specific information. If you would like us to do this, please may I ask you to contact us on either plaudits@swast.nhs.uk or 01392 453 831 and a member of the Patient Engagement Team will be happy to help you further.

Thank you, again, for taking the time to provide us with feedback.

Kind regards,

Sharifa

Thank you for your feedback on your recent experience with the Great Western Ambulance Service and at the Great Western Hospital where you had the operation on your ankle and post-operative care. Please be assured your positive comments will be passed on to the relevant staff responsible but appreciate that you felt your experience with the nursing staff was not good and they just wanted you to be discharged.

We are sorry to hear we did not meet your expectations. We take concerns seriously and are keen to investigate and take action as appropriate. In order for us to do this, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service by emailing pals.team@gwh.nhs.uk or calling 01793 604031 with full details of your concern.
