its hard to get my point across, but it just feels like staff like controlling the situation, and avoid dealing with my needs and wishes.
The other day i was meeting my psychiatrist and they had a medical student sitting in with them. I think it would have been basic manners if my psychiatrist told me this before I entered the room. Instead, I found myself faced with a teammate. I guess they didn't move, because they did not know how to remove themselves from the situation. Meanwhile I was put on the spot and did not feel able to ask them to leave.
My consultant then went on to say drug X was the best for me. I said i was not ready for medication, and then they said that if i was uncompliant it would reflect badly professionally if i want to pursue my particular chosen career. I am not currently a professional, I am a student, and feel I was pushed into a situation with an unwanted medical student, and then pushed to accept drugs without time to think!
Also you may want to remind medical students about their limitations. The medical student and I are on the same sports team. It is election time, and they said I should not run for any positions due to my mental health condition. I wouldn't mind if they cared, but we are competing for the same position.
All this could have been avoided if the consultant thought about asking. Maybe next years students should be made to think about how they will deal with people they know, if they encounter them as a medical student
"too pushy"
